Who uses JPython?
Here's a partial list of projects and users of JPython. If you are
aware of any others, or would like to get your projects listed here,
just drop us a message at
jpython@python.org.
- ObjectDomain
- ObjectDomain is a UML modeling tool that provides scalability,
open architecture, and platform independence. We use JPython as a
vehicle for
end-user extensions and third-party add-ins. Included
scripts provide code generation and documentation for user models.
An integrated JPython console allows the user to query and
manipulate the UML model as well as the application environment.
- MEMS Exchange
- MEMS Exchange is using JPython to prototype Java applets and
applications for their technology. They say they are dreading the
translation of their prototypes to Java! The
remote microscope has a client written in JPython.
- Korfe
- Korfe is a GUI builder designed by the JavaLobby. They use
JPython as their scripting engine.
- Synthesys Technologies, Inc.
- Synthesys Technologies develops software products that provide full
text searches on patient record information. We use JPython to provide
automated regression testing of our CORBA based servers. We also use
JPython to provide client side scripting capabilities in our Java
applications.
- MCI Worldcom
- The Data Subnet Manager, MCI Worldcom's internal frame relay
configuration and provisioning suite, currently uses JPython for
regression testing, interactive debugging, and rapid prototyping of its
Java Client. We also use CPython in our automated build processes and
CGI scripts.
- MIXem
Project of the UCSD DB-Lab
- MIXem Project is an Information Mediation system for XML Data. We use
JPython to prototype components of MIXem and as a scripting
language for user extensions to XMAS query language. The query
language to algebra translation module of MIXem is written
entirely in JPython.
- Objirc Chat
- Objirc Chat is a 100% Pure Java IRC program available from
Objexcel Ltd. It implements
scripting using JPython. All Python programmers are invited
to contribute their Python addins. The web site has a few
suggestions for IRC scripts that need writing if you're
interested.
- Exelixis Pharmaceuticals
- Exelixis has made extensive use of CPython for internal development
tools, intranet components and DNA analysis pipe lines.
JPython is now being used for internal development of Java
gene analysis applets and other tools.
- ICEsoft
- ICEsoft's latest version of their ICEBrowser includes support
for JPython as a scripting alternative to JavaScript. This
allows people to integrate the web browser easily into Python
code (e.g as a web-browsing component or display of
multimedia), let people write plugins/pilots in Python instead
of Java and insert Python code within HTML/XML files to be
executed.
- Python Server Pages (PSP)
- PSP is a server-side scripting engine designed along the lines
of Microsoft's Active Server Pages and Sun's Java Server Pages
specification. The major difference between ASP and PSP is
that PSP is written in 100% Java and portable to a wide
variety of platforms. Web applications written in ASP can be
run only on Microsoft platforms. PSP uses JPython as its
scripting language which seems to be vastly more appropriate
for scripting web sites than the Java language itself in Java
Server Pages.
- ABN AMRO Bank, Treasury Systems
- JPython is embedded inside a Java application to translate XML
data from one language to another as part of a data warehouse
input processing system. The scripts use Sun's XML parser,
which is written in Java, and Java classes instead of Python
constructions in most areas, making the code more accessible
for Java-literate but Python-illiterate developers. There are
1488 lines of Python code in this system.
