Linux FTP Sites

The following FTP sites offer the Linux Kernel, assorted distributions, software applications, drivers, documentation, and more. Although Linux is "free", not all distributions are free for the taking. Some versions may be downloaded at no charge. Virtually all distributions are also available for purchase on CD or floppy disk. Please refer to our Linux Retailer page for more information.

Complete systems that are pre-installed with Linux can be purchased from a variety of vendors. A list of Pre-Installed Vendors is also available for your reference.

Other Places to Get Linux

For many people, downloading and installing Linux the first time can be a time-consuming project. First-time users often find installing Linux from a CD to be a cost-effective alternative -- many distributions can be purchased on CD alone or with a book for under $50 USD. In addition, Linux can be purchased pre-installed on a new computer from a variety of vendors worldwide.
