Hosting

Thank you for your interest in having your site hosted with LinuxGames! We host sites that are related to gaming under the Linux operating system. However, if you are looking to host a gaming site that's not Linux related, don't fret, you should check out Telefragged

Hosting eligibility is determined individually for each applicant because we simply can not approve everyone that applies for hosting.

How do we judge site applications?
We look for a number of things in a future LinuxGames web site, some being more important than others.

  • Content - This is very important, if your site has crummy graphics, but great content that will benefit our cause, you still have a very good chance of being hosted.
  • Subject Matter - This is also important. Certain sites, mostly for general games that run under Linux, are high on our priority list, and will be readily accepted.
  • Redundancy - We shouldn't have a problem with this at first since there are so few resources available on Linux gaming. However, LinuxGames covers general Linux gaming news itself, so we don't need any more news pages. The basic question to ask yourself is "What gap in LinuxGames am I filling?"
  • Graphical Design/Layout - We consider this last, and we don't place much emphasis on it. However, your site needs to look professional. Keep in mind that you don't need a professional artist for a good page, many excellent pages have few or no graphics. Also, remember that your viewers will be using different browsers at different resolutions! Keep your design generic enough to look great in most configurations. However, if worst comes to worst, you can ask one of our HTML designers to help your web site along.

Why would I want my site hosted with LinuxGames?
To be perfectly honest, you could always have your page hosted with GeoCites instead of LinuxGames. Of course, there you are limited to about two to five MBs of webspace, and you usually end up with some long, wacked URL, not to mention their sub-standard bandwidth. At LinuxGames, we try to offer a little more:

  • Unlimited Webspace/FTP Space - Not much to say really, you have pretty much as much space as you'll ever need as long as you need it for your site.
  • OC3 Anyone? - Bandwidth is never an issue with LinuxGames, our little old OC3 (155MPS) connection to the Internet will insure that running out of bandwidth is a thing of the past.
  • Promoting Your Site - Unlike GeoCites and other sites where you are nothing more than a number, or just a link from a pull-down menu, with LinuxGames your site is listed on every page on LinuxGames! That's right, no messy pull-down system on our main page, but rather a button bar place everywhere, front and center, guaranteeing great promotion.
  • E-Mail - Your site can have multiple e-mail addresses on our server, so you can use yourname@linuxgames.com. We can setup full e-mail accounts or it can forward to your current address. Mailing lists also aren't a problem.
  • The Server - LinuxGames is located on a Linux machine and we offer Perl, and SQL database support.
  • Personal Touch - We try to work with the sites we host as much as possible. Whether it's setting up a cgi script, designing a new layout, or doing a logo. We want the sites we host to be the best in what ever area they cover. Chances are if you need something we can get it done for you. Someone is always available to answer a question you might have or to help you set something up. Basically we will do everything we possibly can to make your site... the best.

So what's required of me?
Unfotunately we do require that you place our random banner on your pages so we can pay the server bills.

Alright! I'm ready to apply!
So, you are ready to join our LinuxGames family? Great! Just follow these simple steps and you will be on your way.

  1. We require to see your site before we agree to host it. Have your site in its final form and uploaded to an account somewhere were we can access it.
  2. Be aware that we do require you to place our random banner ads on your pages because we have to pay for our server bills somehow.
  3. E-mail hosting@linuxgames.com and be sure to include an URL to the current site.
We will do our best to respond to your request within 48 hours, regardless of our decision.
