Interoperability

Microsoft is committed to ensuring that the Windows platform works with other key platforms and systems in the heterogeneous computing environment of our customers. In order to achieve this we are committed to the following:
- Build bridges and/or gateways to the key platforms in use by our customers
- Enable 3rd parties and partners to build interoperability to platforms in use by our customers
- Support key standards to provide interoperability with systems also supporting the standard
Microsoft Interoperability Framework
In order to communicate and fill out its interoperability strategy, Microsoft has defined a framework for the technologies which enable Microsoft products to work in a multi-vendor environment. This framework is divided into 4 layers -
Network, Data, Applications and Management - or NDAM for short.
Standards, which play a key role in enabling interoperability between systems, span all 4 layers of the framework.
For a more detailed look at Microsoft’s Interoperability Strategy and the NDAM framework, you can read the Microsoft Interoperability Strategy White Paper.
