MICROTEST ENTERS SOFTWARE LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH ICTV ICTV to Integrate Virtual CD Ô Version 2.0 into Interactive Television System for Audio-Enabled CD-ROM Game SupportPHOENIX, August 9, 1999 - Microtest Inc. (NASDAQ: MTST), a leading developer of network test and measurement tools, network attached storage products, and CD-ROM networking technology, announced today that it has entered into a two-year agreement with ICTV, the first and only company to offer high-speed Internet access and CD-ROM titles to home TVs via cable, to provide software for integration into ICTV's interactive television system. Under the agreement, Microtest will provide 5,000 licenses of its CD-ROM emulation software, Virtual CD, to enhance ICTV's delivery of CD-ROM games to cable-connected televisions. Virtual CD is award-winning software that builds compressed images of entire CD-ROMs onto hard disks, allowing users to access several applications simultaneously without having to swap out CDs. Virtual CD runs applications several times faster than CD-ROM drives and is compatible with many types of CD-ROMs. Version 2.0 of the software offers mixed mode and audio CD support with optional MP3 compression. "We are extremely pleased about this new partnership with ICTV to provide CD-ROM games at incredible speed to ICTV subscribers," said James Boren, Microtest's Vice President, Sales. "The agreement allows Microtest to be a part of ICTV's vision of delivering CD-ROM games via its cutting edge technology, and gives ICTV users the benefit of enjoying the audio portion of their favorite games." The ICTV System delivers high-speed Internet access, PC games and CD-ROM multimedia content to cable-connected televisions over HFC networks. The system works with a conventional television, a set-top box, and an infrared keyboard. The system works by sending user keyboard input to a "headend", which routes it to computer equipment that generates video and audio signals. The video and audio signals are then returned back to the user over an allocated television channel.
