General Information What is MkLinux In 1995 Apple Computer, Inc. started to support a project with The Open Group Research Institute to port Linux, a freely distributed UNIX like operating system, to a variety of Power Macintosh platforms. MkLinux operates on The Open Group Mach (PMK1.1) microkernel, running natively on the PowerPC microprocessor. Work has been leveraged from the original LinuxPPC port to allow for binary compatability between MkLinux and LinuxPPC. Use and Redistribution MkLinux is released in both a binary and sourcecode format. Mach, Linux and the user programs are covered under a variety of licenses including the GNU Public License, BSD-style license, and the OSF Free Copyright. MkLinux may be freely distributed. Anyone is free to download the material from our FTP site, create MkLinux CD-ROMS, etc. (Subject, of course, to the restrictions contained in the software packages themselves.) Apple's logos, trademarks, licenses, and endorsements, in contrast, are carefully monitored by our legal staff! Specifically, the Apple logo may not be used without Apple's authorization. Finally, we ask you to clearly label which release and patch level of MkLinux you are using.
