MkPenguin, representing "Linux on a Power Mac", is our MkLinux mascot. He's a happy little guy and he seems quite comfortable sitting there. Here are some explanations, for the curious.
Why A Penguin?
Linus Torvalds (the creator of Linux) likes penguins. His original idea.
Artwork
The original MkPenguin logo was created by Rich Morin (rdm@cfcl.com), using Color It!, by MicroFrontier. The Penguin itself was created by Larry Ewing (lewing@isc.tamu.edu), using GIMP (General Image Manipulation Program). (Larry also improved MkPenguin a bit, cleaning up jaggies, etc.)
The "MkLinux" logo was created by Brett Halle (brett@apple.com), using Adobe "Photoshop". The base "LinuX" logo was lifted from the LinuX.org logo, found on http://www.linux.org. This logo, inspired by a "painted X" logo (used for X Windows), was created by Liem Bahneman (roland@ssc.com).
