The Nessus Security Scanner relies on the following libraries :

• GTK - The Gimp Toolkit, version 1.2
  GTK is a set of Widgets (like Motif) which are used by many open-sourced programs such as The Gimp. GTK is used by the POSIX client nessus. If you plan to use NessusJ, WinNessus or NessusW, the Java and Win32 clients, then you can ignore this dependencie. If you plan to use the stock nessus client, then you must get it.

  Note : If you have GTK 1.0 installed, then you may choose to not upgrade to version 1.2, since backward compatibility is taken in account. However, it is strongly suggested to use GTK 1.2

  Note #2 : If your system comes with GTK, make sure that you have the gtk-config program installed. If you do not, install the gtk-devel package that should come on your distribution CDROM.

What is new in Nessus 0.99.1 :

• The tests are going much faster
• Extended report facilities : the Unix client can generate reports in NSR (the old format, easy to parse with your favorite tools), HTML and LaTeX.
• Several bugs have been fixed in the client
• It is possible to define several paths for the CGIs to check for (instead of just /cgi-bin, you can configure Nessus so that it tests the presence of CGIs in different places like /home-made-cgis:/cgi-bin:/jd/cgi-bin)
• New security checks have been added (for a total of nearly 270)
• the PEKS library (as well as the zlib and gmp library) have been ported under Win32...
