GIMP-Print 3.1
Robert Krawitz announced the availability of gimp-print 3.1 on the gimp-developer mailing list. However, from checking the web page, I didn't actually see where it could be found. I assume the web page will catch up shortly; keep checking it.

3.1 is a development release of the plugin. Here's Robert's disclaimer:

If this software causes your print head to zoom off the end of your printer, spilling ink all over your 1000 year old Persian rug, don't blame us. Remember, you installed the software.

Grokking The GIMP
Carey Bunks recently mailed the gimp-developer mailing list with news that his book, Grokking the GIMP, will soon be available. What's more, the publisher will be sending free copies to everyone listed in about_dialog.c, and what's more, the book will be published under an open content license and available online, probably at the end of February.

The book has a beautiful cover, created by tigert.

GIMP Wins Slashdot Award
The readers of Slashdot have demonstrated their expertise in interface design by awarding GIMP an award for best GUI interface software. That means someone in the GIMP organization will get US$2000.

I can't find a link to the announcement of the awards, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
