A New Mag on the Rack
We just got word of a new poker magazine, set to debut in July. Seems like a long way off, but the press release went out anyway. Poker Pro is slated to have Doyle Brunson on its inaugural cover and will be available in bookstores, airports, and, presumably, casinos and card rooms. According to the editor, the title is "an educational publication where poker experts provide advice to beginning, intermediate, and semi-professional players." Look for the initial run to be around 50,000 copies.

Poker Player: The Newspaper
There's a new web site for a very old publication. Poker Player has been around in print for several decades, but the folks at Las Vegas and Poker have helped bring the broadsheet into the 21st Century. The site isn't exactly pretty, but despite the rough edges you'll find a ton of information: reviews of poker rooms and casinos, player profiles, regular poker columnists, tournament updates, even poker fiction. And if you don't feel like following the real-time updates, simply download a copy of the bi-weekyl newspaper itself, available for your reading pleasure in full PDF glory.

Home Games, Playboy Style
In the April issue of Playboy, Phil Gordon gives his take on how to host a home game. My favorite line is right up front, "You haven't truly played poker until you've spread a seven-card-stud game on a twin bed in a neon-lit motel room." Uh huh, that's what I'm talking about. But Phil goes on to discuss the components of a top-notch home game that will leave your friends begging you to host another. This article is all about having class...from Kem cards, to quality chips, whether you should offer Talisker or Laphroaig, the ideal size of a game (both player-wise and wallet-wise), and most importantly....how to book a martini-making red hot beauty to make sure the guests never go thirsty on your watch.Think you've already got this covered? Then buy the issue for Phil's "Ten Definitive Rules for Strip Poker." Er, I mean, Miss April—a beautiful blonde psychology student from New York. (The article is not available online)

Adding Up the Numbers
Anyone who knows poker knows
Two Plus Two Publishing. They've put out some of the most highly regarded poker books in the business and their online forums are perhaps the best place to discuss the finer points of the game. Happily, publisher Mason Malmuth has decided to bridge the gap between book publishing and the free-wheeling open nature of message boards, recently unveiling Two Plus Two's Internet Magazine. The third issue just hit the web and it's well worth checking out (along with the archives). You'll find a dozen short articles by math guru David Sklansky, Malmuth himself, and a host of other poker writers. Don't agree with or understand some of the conclusions made by the esteemed staff? No problem. Just take your questions to the magazine's message boards.
