SS - Pro League News (Lost Squads)
4:14:35 PM | Ghost_Ship
Many of the Pro League squads were lost / stolen before the full changeover to the current Sonera/Inet billing server. Even with the new editing tool for the squad database, The password for those squads is still stored and retrieved encrypted. So fixing a lost or stolen squad was nearly impossible. We could change ownership, but little else, and if the new owner wasnt on the squad, then he couldnt join/re-join without knowing this stored password.
This has brought about a not too complex way to fix the problems with squads that are lost. If you are the captain of a Pro League squad, and need your original squad name back due to lost pw, or squad lost/stolen during the VIE to Sonera/Inet billing server change, then do the following.
1. Create a temporary squad. REMEMBER the password for this "temporary" squad.
2. Email me the name of the temporary squad (exact punc, ect),the name of the squad you need to regain control of and your user ID (?userid while in SS).
We will then transfer squad ownership and copy the password from the temp squad to the "lost" one during a score reset period.
This applies to Pro/AM squads only. If you have squad ownership issues in other zones, follow the same procedure, but email the information to that zones sysop.
Here is round 1 schedule:
EGO vs DoH
Alphawin vs The Dark
Hellbound vs Phatboys
ReDS vs Sterling
Unhallowed vs Black Company
BIA vs Nightwatch
Assassins vs Redshift
Addicts vs OUTLAW'S
Pro League Playoffs begin this weekend, so captains get your matches scheduled.

Subspace and Infantry League News
4:14:35 PM | Ghost_Ship
Happy New Year and welcome to the new millenium. Okay, so it doesn’t really start until 2001, but hey, I like seeing /00 at the end of my date inserts. There is a lot happening in the online gaming world and much of that has to do with the SubSpace and Infantry arenas and me. I have been involved in SubSpace since Nov 96 and with SS Leagues for over 2 years now. I still have a love for the game and for Pro League. The SubSpace Pro League is still going strong and is now in season 5 playoffs. I am looking forward to season 6.
I have been asked by Gamefan to run the Infantry League and other online Leagues for them, and I have accepted. Having corporate support for online gaming leagues is essential if those leagues are going to florish and grow. So lots will be happening in and about Infantry as the league starts to form and change during the beta test phase of the game.
Infantry News: Initial draft of the rules for a CTF type Infantry League will see publication soon, so the players can review for some feedback. Some League staff will be appointed to start web site design, to be put on GFN. Some sample matches will be run and reffed to refine the league concept and rule base. Yankee has been tons of help making this work, his quick change back from the private zone isolation from the database was just in time for several scheduled "Gentlemens' matches" to be run.
Subspace:
Subspace General News:
The status of the sale of the rights for SubSpace to Nick Fisher is unknown at this time. However I still feel that it is likely that this will occur very soon.
I would love to be able to tell all of you, that after the sale of the rights to SS, that Jeff and the people at Harmless Games will be able to do a fast subspace update. Until the rights belong to HG and they have market released Infantry, I have no idea when that will be. However, there is one more planned update of SubGame2. This update is intended to include a lot of the bot type functions into the server. The date on this release is in flux as well, because PriitK is a very busy man these days. There is another small group working on a SS shell program, but it has not reached a point yet where it is releasable. Ill keep you informed.
Along the same lines, the billing server rewrite that Jeff spoke about will still be done ( a combined SS/Infantry) (in a still unknown timeframe). Until that complete rewrite is done, I expect that all of the SSC will still want to and will continue to be based at the INET/Sonera billing server.
The SubSpace council is still around and although low profile recently, I expect the council to be directly involved in all of this.
An entire revamping of SubSpaceZone is happening now. Hedcase1 and his SS.NET staff are moving into SSZ and will take over daily operations of the site. (giving it a rejuve and facelift.)
SubSpace Pro League:
Pro League will have a mirror server put up on GFN (CA based UUnet), and if it performs as expected, it will become a new home for Pro and other League Zones soon after. Sometime in the near future, all of the SS Pro league tools will be centralized on Gamefan, and then duplicated for the Infantry League. The move to Gamefan will open some space on the Verio server for other zones as well.
This is a very exciting time for Infantry and for SS as a lot will be happening in the near future. I for one cant wait for all of it to happen.
Until some next news item hits the stands.

Flame City
4:14:35 PM | Cybrid
There's a new flame war in progress. SS.Net and SS.NMEBase are the primary human rights violators behind this puppy. SubSpace flame wars, especially betwen news sites, are notoriously fun, so expect some nice low blows over the next couple of days.
Lucky Omicron . . . he got out just in time ;) He'll be back when the shit stops flying.
Omicron says bye-bye, leaves us all drooling
4:14:35 PM | Cybrid
Omicron, SubSpace.maxig/warstrike.com mogul and general SubSpace God is retiring from active duty for a little while so he can get some studying done. Obviously, he has a weird sense of priorities. Expect him back in a month, if not sooner (that's a hint, omi).
Thought you could get rid of us?
4:14:35 PM | Cybrid
After 2+ weeks of the news script being completely and totally fubar, we're finally back in business. Expect regular updates to resume the very moment there's something worth updating over regularly.

Big Small WarZone Changes
4:14:35 PM | Cybrid
In one of his last council letters (*sniff*), mdk sent out a little bit of ASWZ/L news. Not only is the league hopping and bopping, not to mention looking for players, the zone itself has undergone some shifts. The settings and map now reflect a more WarZonish feel. Go give it a try.
I'd like to take this opportunity in thanking Mdk for being the most dedicated sysop to a zone i know. I don't know how many times i've barked at him to return to Slayfest when he's had to leave and chase down cheaters or settle a squad dispute - i know of noone who has been more dedicated to his people.
ASWZ has had one terrible affliction after another, mostly derived from poor servership. Mdk has steered ASWZ through these very difficult times and is calling upon YOU to join back in the game that once clocked over 100 people daily. ASWZ is a miniature game of quick witted rebound skill, requiring thoughtfulness and plan of action. Grab your mates and head on over for a game...start one up!
ASWZ awaits you...don't forget to check out the ASWZL webpage and be sure to check out squad standings (GO ABS!!).
Round-2 went very well. Congrats again to the winning squads and to a very good job by the Pro Refs. There was one appeal (Hellbound vs Presence) that is still under review. One match was a mess (Bet vs BiP). One player on each squad was on the roster with 2 names each. One for unknown reasons, the other to bypass the waiting period. This match is invalid and will be replayed. The two players, Fluff! and Karmac will sit out the replay and Round-3. The two squad captains are hereby warned, repeat offense on the roster system to bypass rules will get you banned from pro league.
The ONLY reason that no one is banned from this episode is that some rules may not be crystal clear. I will clarify them here now.
1. Players may not change names during the pro season. Once you are registered on a squad for the pro season, you keep that name for the entire season.
2. Players may not have more than 1 name in pro league, 2 names are allowed access ONLY if the second name is from UL, or the player is on the Pro Staff (rules for Pro Staff are listed on the ref pages)
3. If a player leaves a squad and wants to join another, but the captain of the old squad does not remove him/her in a timely fashion, that PLAYER may email me to have him/her removed from the old squad. The new squads captain CAN NOT request that you be removed from the old squad.
It will start this wednesday and go throughout the weekend.
The purpose is to bring more people into the game a lot of us fell in
love with 2 years ago when HZ was started.
You won't have to worry about vets games (where people pick their
teams). everyone will be able to play.
I encourage everyone to try it out... come at least one night, we will
go all night long. HZ is so fun... take this chance to see for
yourself.
thx
