F. URL Field
Enter the search URL in this field. You don't need to put in "http://" - if you don't put it in, it will be added automatically. You can put in URLs of blogs, or you can put in any arbitrary URL to see who is linking to it.
G. Get Link Cosmos Button
Clicking on this button will execute a new search.
H. Number of inbound links
This tells you the number of people who are linking to the blog specified (See item I). Generally, the more inbound links to a blog, the more authoritative it is, meaning that more people read it and find it of value.
I. Specified blog
This is the name of the blog (or the URL, if there is no blog associated with that URL).
J. Blog update time
This shows the last time that the blog specified (See item I) has been updated. Usually, this means that new content has been added to this blog. Blogs that have been updated recently are considered "fresh", meaning they are usually linking to new, interesting content.
K. Ranking Type
There are two ways of ranking the inbound links to a blog - either by "freshness" or by "Authority". In the example above, the links are sorted in order of Authority, which means that blogs that have the most inbound links that link to this site are ranked first. This will give you a quick feel for the relative authority of the site itself - if lots of people who have authority are linking to this blog, it is prob ably credible or has interesting content. Very few authoritative links to a blog may mean that the blog is new, or is not often updated, or is not considering interesting to many bloggers. Perhaps it is a diamond in the rough just waiting to be found!
L. Alternative Ranking
This link allows you to quickly view the inbound links result from the alternative ranking view - in this case, it is the "freshness" view. The freshness ranking places the most updated blogs first in the search results, without regard for blog authority. This allows you to find newly updated links quickly, which usually mean interesting content, rather than just "blogroll" links.
M. Ranking and Name of referring blog
This shows the relative ranking and the name of the blog that is linking to the specified blog (See item I).
N. Number of inbound links to the referring blog
This gives an indication of the "authority" of the blog that is linking to the specified blog. Lots of incoming links mean that this blog has value to many people or it is a blog that is well-read.
O. Referring blog update time
This is an indication of the last time the referring blog was updated. A large difference between the Referring blog update time and the Link creation time (See item Q) usually means that that this is an older link on the page. A small difference usually means that this is a fresh link.
P. Blog excerpt
This is an excerpt from the referring blog (see item M) that includes a link to the Specified blog (See item I). This allows you to quickly get some context around the link text.
Q. Link creation time
This is the time that the link shown in the Blog excerpt (See item P) was created. If the creatin time is recent, the link is probably "fresh", meaning that it points to new or interesting content.
R. Cosmos Referring blog
This takes you to a new Cosmos page, showing you the blogs that have linked to the referring blog (See item M). This is one of the most interesting parts of Cosmos, because it allwos you to check the references and authority of each site, ad infinitum. Often by looking through the Cosmos of a referring site, you can find related or interesting blogs that you've never seen before. Give it a try!
