Mr. Robot joins the IGN Xbox staff in today's Q & A.
Welcome!
Today's Q & A is being answered by Mr. Robot, a former IGNPC staff member who has just announced his recent hire as a member of the IGN Xbox staff. While he'll still be doing some work on the IGNPC site, we'd like to welcome him to the fold. Welcome, Mr. Robot.
Thank you. In a matter of weeks, I shall rule this site and have you all fired. On to the Q & A!
SUXX
Dear Whomever answers this question,
I am considering buying a X-Box, but I am afraid that the games will suck
major @$$. To tell an example of what I mean, I am gonna bring up the
Playstation vs. the SEGA CD. Both have the same processing ability, the same
CD running abilities like how you can put part of a movie onto the CD. But
which system is more popular, what do you think. Playstation. Why? Because
the SEGA games all suck.
So I think that since Microsoft has the same point. Because it is not used
to the gaming world, its games will provable suck. Another thing is that
Microsoft is an American company what was the other American gaming company
Atari. Now, where is Atari now I mean you don't even have a section for it.
And Atari's games were my favorite. I think that one of the reasons Atari
didn't make it was because Atari didn't go higher than like what 16 bit. And
now look what X-Box, dolphin, Dreamcast, and PS2 are 124 bit. Still a lot of
people that have Dreamcast still go back and play there 16 bit Atari. Why
because the games rule. I am afraid that X-Box's graphics will totally
surpass the interest people will have in the games, another thing I am is how
Microsoft will work with a 124 bit system to program games to there maximum
capacity well I am worried that the games will suck because Microsoft has no
experience with games.
-- Boalge Relode
Besides having the most ridiculously fake name in history, I find that your views are faulty to the very core, Boalge. Are you forgetting Midtown Madness, Motocross Madness, and Age of Empires? Microsoft has more than enough experience with games. And besides, how can you write of the Sega CD when it had the incredible Night Trap starring the engrossing Dana Plato? I played that game about 38 times. Dana Plato, how you used to cause my very bones to chuckle! Haw haw!!
But Where Is The Love?
I'm just curious as to why Microsoft really wants to enter the videogame industry. What can they offer that Nintendo and Sega can't? Nintendo and Sega genuinely care about videogames. They innovate. Microsoft doesn't care about the videogame industry. They want money. That's why they have to buy companies (or at least try to buy companies like Midway or Square). Microsoft don't care.
-- Zanot
But what about Sony? You really can't say that Sony really cares about the games. And besides, Nintendo's been around for longer than most people alive today, so to say that they've always loved video games is like saying that the Waltons loved NASCAR racing. But I digress. The point here is that as the new reigning EIC of IGN Xbox, I call the shots now. I rule this town. And if I say that Microsoft is full of love, then I am, in fact, right. I love the "X with a box" more than any other system. Even more when it comes out. How much do I get paid here again?
$$$
Ok, what is all this crap about buying Midway? Why not just let them
develop games for all the new game systems coming out? Midway has been
making quality games for multiple plat forms and they are doing just fine.
Even if Microsoft doesn't buy Midway, they will still make games for the
X-box. Why does Microsoft think they have to be so greedy?
-- Confused consumer
So the question, dear reader, is why does Microsoft have to be so greedy? The answer is simple. You may not realize this, but the company has an extensive series of waterslides that cart its employees effortlessly from one building to another. As you would imagine, these slides, or "banana peels" as they are commonly called, cost upwards of THREE BILLION DOLLARS a year to keep up. Where does this money come from? Under Bill Gates couch cushions -- but besides that, from acquisitions like the possibly/maybe purchase of Midway.
$300 Too Little?
Hey what's up. I have no idea what price the Xbox will launch at next year,
but it will need to come in under $300 if it will compete. How is it going
to come in under $300 with a sweet Pentium 3, a custom Nvidia graphics chip,
an 8 gig hard drive, and 64 megs of ram? The Xbox will not sell as well if
it is going to be super expensive, but I guess Microsoft knows what its
doing.... we'll see next year. Later.
-- Meekel
Simply put, through the magic of money. Companies will usually eat the money in hardware, and then make it back in software. Though it takes a few years, the results usually make up for the initial loss. Sony did something similar with the PlayStation, and Microsoft will definitely do the same with the Xbox.
Thank you all for your time. You'll be hearing a lot more from me as I slowly work to destroy Vincent's will and take over this site, piece by piece. I would appreciate your not alerting him to this fact.
Sincerely,
Mr. Robot, Esq.
