Post-game Locker Room Bad ankle and all, McAllister rolls
• Stringer- Bill Scott Vikings/Packers Updates • 11:07- Welcome to the Show- NFL Week 14...College Football Bowl games are set. • 11:17- SportsCenter- All the highlights and post in the Expanded SportsCenter with Marc Kestecher. • 11:47- John Hansen, ESPN.com and Fantasy Guru.com- Preparing for the Fantasy Football playoffs...John tells us about the big performers..."Deuce McAllister fought off a bum ankle to cross 3 TD's for his fantasy owners. Brad Johnson has been on fire behind center along with Jon Kitna.....both of these QB's have put up surprising numbers." We discuss players that get the start no matter what from here on out. John also answers a few questions from the PGLR emailbox. • 12:07- Adam Caplan, NFL.com and Football Injuries.com- NFL Week 14.....First up, ESPN's Sunday night game...."It was a really competitive game as all the Sunday Night games have been this year....You knew once Brett Favre got the ball with the chance to win it, you know he would at home." With the Lions' loss, Jack wonders about the job security of Marty Mornhinweg and Matt Millen..."I don't think one goes without the other....Millen has to do a better job and Mornhinweg is one of the worst coaches in the League." Jack talks about a rumor about Steve Mariucci's possible interest in Detroit..."I think it's a very real possibility. Everyone knows his roots and the fact that he feels very under appreciated in San Fran. Some are saying that it's almost a definite that he'll be the next top man in Detroit." • 12:27- Coach Fran or Coach Sham?- Jack discusses the move of Coach Franchione and the question of him addressing his players before making the announcement. We also get listeners opinions at 888-SAY ESPN. • 12:47- Price Johnson, Author and College Basketball Analyst- Opening our coverage of College Hoops..Price tells us about his book and video on College Scholarships..."I talk about the different camps players go through and what happens when they contact coaches in order to continue playing basketball through College." Jack discusses some of the drills and practice schedules that players use and how Price's book break's them down.."Players have to get used to drills that are not only physical, but mental. you have to be physically strong enough to survive the rigors of the game, but you also have to be able to make quick decisions and be mentally tough as well." • 1:07- Gil Brandt, Former NFL V.P.- Breaking down Week 14 in the NFL...The Niners clinch a playoff spot against the Cowboys..."With the Rams loss, San Fran moves into the post season....it's funny to see that no one in the AFC could clinch today...and the one NFC team that did, needed help." Kansas City runs over St. Louis..."The Chiefs really have a chance to do something the way their offense puts up points...the way they are playing, I think they're going to really help shape the playoff picture in the AFC West." The Falcons go down to the Bucs...."Vick doesn't play as well outdoors as he does on the carpet. It's tough for a team that's built on speed like that to play outdoors on grass sometimes. I also think we can see that Vick has some room to grow as a passer." On the Texans' stunner over the Steelers..."I think the history says you don't bench the starter when he's coming back from an injury. Houston got some defensive pressure today and walked away a winner." Jack asks about Drew Bledsoe's performance against the Patriots...."Drew is the kind of player that wears down as the season goes along and I think we're starting to see him fade out as the season is closing." • 1:27- Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN- The Bowl games are set and Mel gives us his thoughts... "The matchups are putting the best teams together...I would have liked some more traditional conference matchups in some of the bowls, but that's just one man's opinion." Jack talks about the length of time until teams play their bowl games and how that will affect their play..."It's the same thing with the Super Bowl...Iowa will not play for almost a month, but it some cases...it's a long season for some of these teams and sometimes they'll welcome this break to get the chance to get injured players back to full strength." Looking at some of the matchups we'll see in the Fiesta Bowl..."When you look at Miami, you're going to see Ohio St.'s great defense trying to stop a great offense. The Buckeyes problem is going to be taking Canes WR Andre Johnson out of the game...he could be the X Factor that decides who wins this game." Jack will be covering the Rose Bowl..."Oklahoma's defense has risen up and knows the challenge they'll face against Washington State. Not only does this defense know the challenge, they welcome it....they play better when facing the tougher opponents." Eyeing the Orange Bowl and the battle of 2 QB's between Iowa and USC...."Carson Palmer has survived the challenge of changing coordinators to become a possible #1 pick over and Heisman winner....Brad Banks is a great athlete and has followed the plan of Kirk Ferentz to a tee." • 1:47- Alex Marvez, Sun-Sentinel- Monday Night Matchup- We preview the Bears and Dolphins on ABC at 9pm ET.....Jack opens with the '72 Dolphins being honored at the game. Alex says it's been a tough stretch for the Fins..."3 games in 13 days...this game may ride on the shoulders of Ricky Williams. This is a different player than he was last year....he's been nothing but a model player down here. It's funny to think it's been a win/win situation, but once he hits that 1500 yard mark..the Dolphins surrender a first round pick." As for the Bears...Jack points out their weak rushing attack and the lack of offense of late..."I don't see alot of hope for them in this game...They have to pass the ball extremely well to even have a chance. The amount of players this team has lost throughout the season has been ridiculous. No matter how great they were last season, all these injuries could turn them into a 3-13 team this year." With the rough season in Chicago, Jack asks about Dick Jauron's future and where this team is headed...."If the Bears go through another season like this one, you can guarantee that Dick Jauron will no longer be coaching this team. If they can get healthy and straighten out their QB situation, they could actually contend for a Division title once again." -- Notes by Vince Kates |
