    Calgary Java User Group - CJUG
    The Calgary Java User Group was started in Oct 96 by a very small, ambitious group of developers/programmers who think Java development is dynamic, exciting, fast-paced and fun. Our mission is to promote Java within the Calgary community by having informative, interactive meetings with a technical bent (as opposed to marketing/sales). Although we try and focus on showcasing local talent, we have been very successful bringing in out of town guest speakers.
    We meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Our membership has grown to over 300 people with around 80 people being present at any of our meetings. If you wish to find out more about CJUG or become a member:

    EJUG/CIPS Java SIG is a group of enthusiasts who share interest in Java and Java related technologies, and their application in enterprise business solutions.

    EJUG's mission is to:

    • To help newcomers to Java find the most expedient way to further their Java knowledge.
    • To help team leaders understand issues specific to managing Java projects.
    • To promote Java and its competitive advantages in Edmonton business community.

    We are planning to accomplish our objectives by:

    • Holding regular presentations during our monthly meetings;
    • Publish a list of Java gotcha's - things you need to know but the books won't tell you;
    • Recommend good Java books and web sites;
    • Publish articles written by our members;

    The language of the future: Java, Java is really fun language to program in, it is powerfull and really clean compare to other languages. I want to learn everything there is to learn about java; Networking, Swing (JFC), Jini, AWT, RMI, JDBC, Servlets, Applets, etc. There are not many companies in western Canada developing softwares in Java.     Tucson: JUG Ruth, I agree. The T-JUG meets regularly now at University of Phoenix on Grant Rd. At the last meeting we had ~5 participants. We talked about networking with java (Sockets, RMI, etc.) The keynote (by me :-)) was on JINI (btw, JINI ROCKS!) We are currently trying to encourage members to get sponsorship from their companies, but until we get some funding it will be something of a Home-Brew type operation...no pun intended :-)

    Need a JUG for Lousiville area, since GE Appliances and UPS are huge proponents of Java and involve developers employed by them and other consultants.     We Learn Java By Using it!
       Our major focus for this group is to create products in Java that focus on topics our members want to use. Our current project is an e-commerce website that will search the internet for free products and services, writing the information it receives into a database. Then users will search the database for products or services by keyword and purchase them online. The project is called 'FreeStuff.com' and will employ JDBC , servlets , Java based web-spiders , a Java-based shopping carts , credit card authentication , and other Java technologies as we need them.
       Our secondary focus is on certification and learning more about Java. We do this by inviting speakers who talk to us about Java and teach us about certain topics. Our last topic was JNI , by John Ferguson of Pro Object.
       We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at Phillips in Annapolis at 7:30 pm.

    All meetings contain at least one presentation which is educational in nature. So, each user group meeting is like a getting a free one to two-hour Java class.

    The Twin Cities / Minnesota chapter meets the second Wednesday of every month from 5:00-7:00pm.

    Committee meetings happen at vaious times, as set by the committee chairs.

    Who? The Pittsburgh Java Users Group was initiated by Manu Kumar (sneaker@sneaker.org). Manu is currently responsible for the activities of the group. Why? The Pittsburgh Java Users Group was initiated in order to build a network of local people who are interested in and knowledgeable about Java. Though the momentum of Java was strong enough to create severe Java-addicts, there was lack of flow of information in the Pittsburgh area amongst people who were actually using Java or may actually want to be using Java in the future. This is the case even within Carnegie Mellon University, the center for technology in the Pittsburgh area; though the use of Java was widespread, all the people using it were not sharing their experiences. Such experiences could result in valuable information for others and for the specific projects. In short the purpose of this group is to build contact between current and future Java developers and to also build the people network. When? The group functions primarily by means of mailing list for its members and also holds meetings on the second Wednesday of every month at the Carnegie Mellon Campus

    I want to start a java users group in Rhode Island. Our first meeting is planned for Friday the 21st of July, 2000 at 7 pm at 109 Princeton Ave., Providence, RI 02907. We have 3 machines with JDK 1.1.8 and JSDK 2.0. I will actively promote the JUG this fall. Our target meeting schedule is the third Friday of each month.     I would like to initiate the formation of an online(or other)Java Users Group in and around the Huntington, West Virginia. Currently(duh!), my knowledge of Java and it's applications are limited but I'm learning. I'd appreciate any/all applications and source codes you may feel free to distribute in my direction. TeamSoft Consulting is sponsoring MadJUG (Madison Java User Group) with a large base of Java consultants although everyone is welcome to join and participate.
