Damn, That's One Evil Lookin' Island

Nival jumps into the RPS ring with their upcoming title Evil Islands.

February 24, 2000

A new member has been added to what may be the next great gaming genre, the role-playing strategy category, which was born with the announcement of Blizzard's WarCraft III. Russian based Nival added their name to what is sure to be a large pile of developers to capitalize on this type of game, with the announcement of Evil Islands.

In what seems to be a fun story, if not terribly original, the world of Evil Islands was torn apart by a magical cataclysm that split the main landmass into three big -- you guessed it -- islands. The game begins with a young man who wakes up on a deserted island that he has never seen before. He finds himself caught fighting to escape the evil land and discover his own origins.

The game will put you in command of a small battle party of truly individual characters thanks to a comprehensive character creation system. Nival is hoping to blend hack-and-slash style gameplay with the need for caution and strategy. It will feature a non-linear plot with over 50 open and covert missions and over 120 types of monsters.

Evil Islands will feature a fully 3D environment. The characters will change in appearance during the course of the game as their skill grows. Wounds will also appear when the characters get hurt.

We'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one and let you know when we have some more hinkfo. In the meantime, check out some art and screenshots from the Evil Islands website.
