Howdy Greg,
That's a difficult one to answer right now, Greg. Especially considering I've put in about 8 months of EverQuest (over a year of you consider the beta), and only a week or so of the final version of Asheron's Call. Steve and I are both planning on playing AC more extensively over the next few weeks, and we're both going to write the review. We'll actually probably give you folks a "first look" at the AC final within the next few weeks, with a big review to follow sometime after Christmas. With a game as large as Asheron's Call, you don't want to rush through it just to grind out a review. We always stress depth in a full review over just posting things to get them up.

On 11/5/99 Charly was talking about Diablo II. He said that the release date
was November 16th, but diabloii.net have the date listed as December 24th.
Charly is far behind the news, and sadly so are you. The beta is scheduled
for later this month, so that chances of it going gold this month are not
good. Anyway, all of the release dates I've seen for venders are listed as
December 10. Ok, that's enough relevant information. Love the site and
[Insert bootlicking/butt kissing comment here]. And remember people: if you
can't think, don't try this at home.

Like I told Charly, game release dates are an inexact science, and Blizzard still has yet to confirm anything or set an exact date. If you notice on our release list, we get our dates from EBWorld, so they're only as accurate as they are on the site. Unfortunately, most companies aren't willing to nail down an exact date because they know chances of actually hitting a target store date are slim until the gold master copy is out the door and at the duplicators.
Now, after saying all that, I can tell you that I have it on good authority though that we may not even see Diablo II until after the turn of the year. Like Metallica so eloquently put it, "Sad, but true."

Eek, A Mouse
I want to get a new mouse. I don't know if I want a snazzy optical mouse
like the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, or a more traditional mouse
with some balls like the Razer Boomslang 2000. Which of these are better
for gaming? Or is there another mouse that is even better than these
two? I suppose what I really want to know is, what is the Ultimate
Gaming Mouse?

Right now the Intellimouse Explorer is my favorite gaming mouse out there. It feels good and it's optical lens combined with a USB hook-up means it's super-responsive. I've used the Razer too and, to be honest, I thought it felt a little awkward. It was ok for gaming, but of course I use the same mouse for work as well, and it just wasn't very comfortable in my hand after extended use. I know the Explorer is a little more expensive, but if you're truly looking for the Ultimate Gaming Mouse, it's the way to go in my humble opinion.

Psck, Zrrt, Zrrt, Wuh
My CD drive is having a hard time reading CDs that I put into it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Any suggestions on how to get it to work, or do I just need to get a new one?

Although it's nearly impossible to diagnose the problem without actually being at your computer, most CD read problems happen because something is wrong with your CD-ROM lens. Either it's dirty, mis-aligned, etc. My first suggestion would be to pick up one of those CD drive cleaners (it looks like a regular CD with a little brush on it) and give it a whirl in your CD-ROM drive. If your lens has gunk on it, it might have trouble reading your CDs. You can also have a technician reposition your lens if it has been knocked out of alignment, but be sure to ask how much this costs before you dive in. Sometimes it's cheaper just to buy a new CD-ROM drive, especially if you're not looking for any fancy features like DVD playability or burning.

Spend Your Money … All Of It
OK,
I'm not sure if you're going to answer this on the site (but you could
email me a simple one word response if possible). I just replaced my
Voodoo2 8MB PCI with a Voodoo3 16MB PCI, and the performance doesn't seem to
be all that much better. I have an AMD K6 300mhz processor and 48 MB RAM
(yeah, I know, sucks). So what's the real problem, should I shell out for
more RAM, or update the whole system to a P3 or the like??

If you can only get one, go for the RAM, Chris. Although I'd highly recommend upgrading your processor to at least a 450, I suggest no less than 64MB of RAM for gaming right now, and preferably 128MB. Plus it's easy to pop more RAM into your system. Now while I haven't had a chance to use a K6 system yet, everything I've read about them is positive, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a faster AMD processor (which will be cheaper than a P3) or even an Intel Celeron chip for your needs, especially since I would consider a 300MHz machine at the low end of gaming systems now. So, if you have the money to do it, go for both. You'll definitely see a performance increase then.
