Starfleet Universe Unofficial 1.01.00 Patch FAQ

Last Updated: 09/07/99 - 11:17AM Pacific Standard Time

This data is always being updated as new information becomes available. If you're experiencing trouble with the latest patch release, or unsure if you should upgrade or not.. then hopefully this will be of some help:

What is this the 1.01.00 patch?

This is the first official patch released by Interplay since the release of Starfleet Command.

So what is the "Beta" patch?

This was a test version of the 1.01.00 patch. It gave your Starfleet Command a version number of 1.00.01b. It wasn't a full release and was released for public testing purposes. It fixed some problems but the majority of fixes came in the final release version.

Where do I download this patch?

Visit our Patch Downloads page for download locations.

How do I Install this new patch?

The most successful way that people have reported, is to do this:

    • Completely un-install and re-install Starfleet Command.
    • Log onto Mplayer's Starfleet Command chat lobby and let the service upgrade you automagically.
It seems that even patching using the official .zip file contents somehow disables multiplayer. So if you play Starfleet Command online then we recommend letting Mplayer upgrade you.

To patch your Starfleet Command via the .zip file download:

    • Head on over to our Patch Downloads page and grab the 1.8Mb .zip file.
    • Completely un-install and re-install Starfleet Command.
    • Unzip the contents of the sfcptch1.zip file into your Starfleet Command directory.
    • Run (double click) the runme.bat file and let the patching process do it's magic.
I installed from the .zip file but Mplayer still wants me update!

Don't worry. You'll need a few hundred kilobytes of extra Mplayer-specific stuff. Let it install.

Your .zip file is 1.8Mb, but Mplayer installs over 4Mb of data.. what gives?

The patches are identical except the files that Mplayer installs "on-the-fly", are not compressed. The 1.8Mb zip file contains the same amount of data in a compressed format for faster download purposes.

So what does this patch fix?

    • The cost of ships now includes all supplies, so selling supplies back will not reduce the cost of the ship under it's starting value.
    • Hydrans can now select ECCM 4.
    • Cloaking Device costs energy to operate.
    • The enemies in your mission are now directly tied to your location.
    • Ships will continue to move after attempting to use non-existant Wild Weasel shuttle.
    • Hydran fighters are no longer useable in Nebulas.
    • Cloaked ships cannot be the target of hit and run raids without a lock-on.
    • Scatterpacks have been increased in cost.
    • Some mission changes.
    • Legendary officers are slightly harder to find.
    • Ships attempting to disengage in the upper left hand corner of the map will actually do so now.
    • Weapons and systems should work properly when repaired.
    • Point defense no longer occasionally fires while cloaked.
    • Change Course button in the Galactic News/Map screen works after you load a game.
    • Sound related issues have been dealt with.
    • ESG should affect enemy shuttles and fighters.
    • Non-Rookie officers now start with their proper experience.
    • Officers in multiplayer are always Senior.
    • Respawning in Battlefest with black holes no longer causes you to appear _in_ a black hole occasionally.
    • Freighter speeds have been adjusted in various missions.
    • Transporting through minimal shields no longer works.
    • The Hydran DWH has found the dual hellbore icons it was missing.
    • An AI crash bug (AI attempts to capture while cloaked) was fixed.
    • Gorn debriefing text now scrolls.
    • Heavy Weapons no longer have wear and tear.
    • Campaign Save Games - fixed file size problem that caused corrupted saves. Saved games that were previously corrupted cannot be loaded, but un-corrupted savegames are compatible.
    • Mod Detection - multiplayer mod detection doesn't "spam" messages and only reports actual differences. It also now only checks when player clicks READY button.
    • Spacedock Missiles - fixed problem with purchasing large number of missiles for some ships.
    • Lyran Medals - a minor bug with the Lyran medals screen was fixed.
    • Specs File - fixed several minor errors (cloaking cost for Klingon D5Y, shield strength for listening posts and other units).
    • Capturing Listening Posts - no longer causes a crash due to spec file change. Units that had no starting shields would crash when captured.
    • Hotkey Bindings - The bindings.ini file was un-write protected.
Does the 1.01.00 patch contain the "Beta" patch fixes too?

    Yes.

Okay, now all my ship prices are screwed!

Again, don't worry. Nothing has gone wrong. Check out the New Pricing Charts for the new prices!

I installed from Mplayer, and now I can't play my Elite missions!

The Starfleet Command executable looks for an exact case when looking for mission files. i.e. Fed_1Errand.scr is different than fed_1errand.scr. The Mplayer patch changed the case of the .scr files so the SFC executable thought the mission files were not there. All you have to do, while waiting for the new patch, is to rename your mission files in /assets/scripts/ so they read:

    Fed_1Errand.scr
    Fed_2TestingGround.scr
    Fed_3BorderingOnInsanity.scr
    Fed_4DancingWithMyself.scr
    Fed_5ANestOfSpies.scr
    Fed_6Alliances.scr
    Fed_7Doomsday.scr
    Fed_8RiftRaft.scr
    Fed_9Armageddon.scr
    Kli_1ExpeditionToOrgania.scr
    Kli_2AHoleInTimeAndSpacePart1.scr
    Kli_2AHoleInTimeAndSpacePart2.scr
    Kli_3ParadiseByTheDisruptorLight.scr
    Kli_4CloakOfNight.scr
    Kli_5ThatWhichMustDie.scr
    Kli_6DevilYouKnow.scr
    Kli_7VanishingActPart1.scr
    Kli_7VanishingActPart2.scr
    Kli_8WeAreTheDead.scr
    Kli_9Praxis.scr
    Lyr_1AColdQuietPlace.scr
    Lyr_2Lifeline.scr
    Lyr_3ScumOfTheUniverse.scr
    Lyr_4PlotThickens.scr
    Lyr_5Challenge.scr
    Lyr_6Reemergence.scr
    Lyr_7KittenKaboodle.scr
    Lyr_8StrikeFirstStrikeHard.scr
    Lyr_9BrokenToys.scr
    Rom_1FourFunerals.scr
    Rom_2MedicineJar.scr
    Rom_3YellowFlag.scr
    Rom_4HowdyNeighbor.scr
    Rom_5ScanAndScram.scr
    Rom_6OrionMustBeDestroyed.scr
    Rom_7Sheriff.scr
    Rom_8SecretOfRomulanFury.scr
    Rom_9WarOfTheTals.scr
Spelling and captialization must be perfect. The new patch changes this requirement so the executable finds the missions in any case format.

    Are all the bugs fixed?

No, the development team have said that there will be another patch in the future to address some more issues. The major bugs should all have been taken care of, however. Unless additional major issues are reported, future patches should just contain various cosmetic changes, new user-requested features and other low-priority stuff.

Where should I report bugs to?

Interplay has a Technical Message Forum set up where bug reports and questions of a technical nature are posted. Feel free to post your messages there and be sure to be as detailed as possible so the team have a good idea about whats causing the problem. And please, don't flame the developers.

You made a mistake in this FAQ!

I'm only human :) If you do spot anything wrong, spelling errors or think I missed out a question or topic I should have covered regarding this patch release, then email me at jeh@startfleetuniverse.com with the details. I don't plan on covering things like new bugs, existing bugs that weren't fixed etc.. in this FAQ. That is for Interplay's Technical Message Forum.

I hope this was of some help to you!
