Network Computing's Real-World Labs®

Only Network Computing performs hands-on product reviews in our Real-World Labs® co-located on the sites of two large universities, a Fortune 100 corporation, as well as bench-test facilities, which enables us to test products in real-world environments as well as in isolation. Our labs, staffed by networking experts who understand the challenges faced by corporate IS and network managers, are unmatched by any publication.

Our Real-World Labs® give Network Computing its competitive edge: We can test network products in a real-world environment, with all the attendant problems of interoperability, security, manageabililty, and reliability that our 220,000 readers face every day. Many of our hands-on product reviews spring from our lab partners' needs. We can test products across WAN links that straddle the country. At the same time, we can also test in an isolated environment, when a pure test network is warranted, such as for performance tests. Our Real-World Labs® are also interconnected via frame relay, and we have T-1 and ISDN, PRI, and BRI facilities. We run bench tests on virtually every product we evaluate.

Each lab site offers a unique set of resources, and you'll find each one spelled out in greater detail in these pages. You'll find the network architectures, and areas of networking expertise, for our two university labs, at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Syracuse University, the unique MCI Developers lab testing facility, and our labs at Network Computing's offices in Manhasset, San Mateo, and Washington D.C.

Our readers don't live in controlled networking environments. Neither do our editors. Our hands-on reviews reflect our real-world attitude.
