Alteon Networks ACElerate 5 Server Switching Software
Improved. Combining the functionality of a full-fledged load-balancer with high-speed network infrastructure, Alteon Networks has incorporated the latest edition of its load-balancing software, ACElerate 5, into its Ethernet server switches. Touting a number of new features, including distributed and local load-balancing, filtering and traffic redirection, ACElerate 5 covers all the bases for IP traffic management and load distribution. Alteon Networks' ACElerate 5-enabled server switches have the ability to respond to a user's DNS request with the IP address of the "best site," taking into consideration factors such as site proximity, server load, site health and response time. In addition, each ACElerate-enabled server switch possesses global, up-to-date knowledge of peer-site availability and performance through continuous site exchanges using Alteon Networks' Distributed Site State Protocol (DSSP). The result is increased server reliability, URL load-balancing, and IP filtering and redirection.

LANCAST "redundant twister" Media Translator
New. LANCAST brings higher fault tolerance to Fast Ethernet networks with its "redundant twister," a media translator that provides full redundant data paths for Fast Ethernet devices. The "redundant twister" provides two connections; if one connection fails, the "redundant twister" automatically fails over to the secondary link. The vendor claims this happens in less than 50 nanoseconds.
The "redundant twister" is available in 100BASE-TX to redundant 100BASE-TX or 100BASE-TX to redundant 100BASE-FX configurations. Both are available with optional redundant power supplies.
