24: 11:00 PM - 12:00 AM

jackbauer2Last night, Jack Bauer and friends got to experience a scenario about as bad as it could get for the Feds - the attempted murder of the President while the terrorists responsible are running around. After Anderson's stealth fighter took aim at Air Force One in the last episode, we were left to hear Jack screaming about whether the plane was still in the air. Thankfully for us, FOX didn't take a long break until May sweeps to keep us waiting for what comes next.

We get a bit of a surprise this week from Agent Buchanan, who has a nice heart-to-heart with Tony Almeida about Michelle Dessler. This whole triangle is like a rollercoaster that won't stop going up and down. And once again, we're led into a situation which seems super formulaic, but get roped in when the President is found alive (for now) and usurper government official Mike Novick shows up to help advise the Vice President about invoking the 25th Amendment.

24: 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM

desslerTonight's 24 proved yet again why the concept is so fantastic. Right up front, we find out that Paul has regained consciousness, and is paralyzed from the waist down - but might be able to walk again. Audrey's eyes betray her true feelings, which appear to be leaning towards him over Jack, as Paul has turned out to be genuine in his statements and actions. Unfortunately, this plotline is left alone for the balance of the show, but surely this won't be the case going forward.

Michelle Dessler appears to be on edge, and it's not just because Tony is actually wearing a jacket over his t-shirt. She's given a comforting touch from the boss from Division, which Tony catches from across the room. He looks peeved, as he, like the rest of us, appears to have thought something might be up with him and his ex. Upon confronting Dessler, it comes out that she is indeed with the boss, although whether or not she is sleeping with him is "none of [Tony's] business." So much for that love possibility.

24: "9:00 PM - 10:00 PM"

24It's getting down to nitty gritty time on Fox's "24," and no one's gone to the restroom yet - not even the cast. Paul is still in surgery, and Audrey appears to have changed clothes yet again. In an effort to draw attention away from Anderson's attempt to grab the military plane, Marwan wonders about trading Jack Bauer for Behrooz Araz. It's also unclear whether Audrey will choose Jack or Paul once this is all done, and Michelle Dessler seems to be trying to warm back up to Tony Almeida.

DVD starter kits

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment came out with starter sets for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, 24, The Pretender, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show yesterday-- 2 to 4 hour collections of episodes from the first season, priced to move at $9.99.

Fox has been incredibly aggressive in adopting the DVD model as a revenue source, and it's been hugely popular and profitable (according to Adams Media Research, revenue from three seasons of "24" on DVD had generated $72.1 million and six seasons of "Buffy" on DVD totaled $123.3 million in revenue by the end of 2004) and even led to the revival of Family Guy and Firefly. I look forward to seeing if this continues the trend.
