Category: RealityHell's Kitchen: Episode 1
This is actually a fun show. A million times better than that NBC's The Restaurant, and one that maintains its intensity and unpredictability throughout the first ep. When Ramsay says that the contestants should be "prepared for anything and everything" he really means it: the restuarant opens up on the same day that the contestants arrive! Yes, another damn post about American Idol Aaron Barnhart over at TV Barn wonders if American Idol has worn out it's welcome. He makes some good points ("Wednesday's two-hour finale did seem like a half-hour program that had been tortured out of its mind"), and he wonders why they included that sketch that seemed to make fun of the whole Paula Abdul/Corey Clark scandal.

All reality, all the time
Your guide to all the summer reality shows I'm glad David Bauder put this list together. I think I would get really depressed talking about all these crappy reality shows premiering this summer. OK, obviously they won't all be crap (and we need summer programming to get us through til the fall season), but I've just overdosed on all this reality. There's one good thing about so many reality shows on the air: maybe it will make their eventual demise come earlier than later. Though I doubt it. See the list below for a quick rundown.Continue reading Your guide to all the summer reality shows
Twiggy joins America's Next Top Model Rail-thin 60s fashion model Twiggy is replacing Janice Dickinson on the UPN hit America's Next Top Model. This is a rather interesting development. It's like Tony Bennett replacing Paula Abdul on American Idol. Which, come to think of it, wouldn't be a bad idea.
TV Squad Interview: Sugar Money on Bo Bice
Millions of fans have been voting for Bo Bice, week after week, on American Idol. Everyone wants a piece of him - or wants to claim they knew him "way back when". Now TV Squad goes to the people who know Bo best - his longtime friends and Sugar Money bandmates, John Cooper and Shane Sexton, to bring you the story of the "real" Bo - the guy they've known for over 12 years and consider a "brother". Below is a taste of what's coming your way early next week when TVSquad dives deep to discover who Bo was before he was an Idol, and how he's likely to handle his sudden fame. TVSQUAD: Any truth to the rumors that Bo was glad when Constantine got booted off, because that meant he'd be the only "rocker guy" left? JOHN COOPER: Nah. Bo and Constantine got along just fine. Besides, they have totally different sounds. Our band and Constantine's band, they sound nothing alike. Constantine does his thing, and he's good at what he does, and Bo is good at what he does. The whole 'rocker guy' thing is just a label, you know? If two of your main influences are James Taylor and Jim Croce, like Bo - you aren't really a 'rocker guy'. But I think, you know, if you mixed Mick Jagger, Eddie Vedder and Axl Rose together, that's kinda Bo. He's got this great stage presence, he engages the audience. And what you've seen on Idol week after week, that's the real Bo. He's the real deal. TVSQUAD: Did you think about going to Orlando and trying out for Idol with Bo? JC: *chuckles* Me? I'm not an American Idol. Bo, he's the songwriter, he's the front man. We're friends and brothers before we're bandmates, we supported him all the way. We've been friends for over 12 years, you know? The friendship's not gonna change. Ruben (Stoddard)'s band, they were playing a gig in Alabama, and they invited us to come hang with them - not to play, you know, just to hang out. Because they're from Alabama and so are we. And we went, and Ruben was there too, just hanging with them. He was there. And so I know, eventually, all this craziness is gonna slow down, and Bo will be back. And we'll be here. There's much more to come from John and Shane, kids. And if you're real lucky, we might just be bringing you an up-close-and-personal chat with Bo himself. Stay tuned to TV Squad for more Bo-diggity goodness than you can shake a stick at.
Lost vs. Idol: The ratings results So the big battle on Wednesday pitted the season finale of Lost vs. the season finale of American Idol, and both did extremely well. Idol had an average of 30.3 million viewers and a 12.5 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo over its two hours. Lost averaged 20.7 million, and a 7.8 rating with 18-49 year olds. The also did well with teenagers (though who the hell knows how accurate that statistic is).
Ma and Pa America: American Idol sucks Talked to my mom this afternoon, and she had a few scathing things to say about our recent American Idol winners, and the whole damn "talent reality" thing in general.Ma: "Oh! Your father and I watched that American Idol yesterday, and you know what? They both suck! [BTW: this is the first time I have ever heard my mom say "suck."] The world is coming to an end if people think those two can actually sing! You know what they ought to do? Pack those two up and make them start over, ship 'em off to Julliard!" Frankly, despite my unwavering, completely astute coverage of the AI circus, I agree. Guess it runs in the family.
You don't have to wait to get a Bo Bice CD
So now all you Bo fans can stop emailing asking when you'll be able to satisfy your Bo cravings, and trust us, we'll be sure to let you know here on TV Squad when his solo CD comes out, too. Because we're just nice that way. Hey, who besides me thinks that Carrie and Bo should do a cover of that Donny and Marie Osmond classic, "I'm a Little Bit Country (I'm a Little Bit Rock-N-Roll)"? But please, no cheesy, glittery, purple outfits.
American Idol: Hey, did you know Carrie won? Wow, okay, you guys are going to kill me, but I totally forgot about last night's American Idol conclusion. I woke up this morning and wondered vaguely aloud to myself, "wait a sec...what did I forget to do last night?" And sure enough, it's right on the front page of the news: "Carrie Underwood Wins 'Idol' Contest." Wow. So, yeah, I so did not see this coming. I mean, we had a 50-50 chance of guessing it correctly, right? So I'm not exactly to blame...really. Not me.Anyhoo, Yahoo! News reports that Cindy Monteleone of Chicago thinks Carrie has a star quality Bo Bice doesn't. And they point out that she's a "polite, quiet, small-town girl who is dedicated to music." Which is cool, but come on, she's no Ashlee Simpson—she'll never sing about having sex on the kitchen floor. She'll sing a few top-the-chart pop songs, sell her first album to the millions of American Idol fans, and then what? Will celebrity change her? Will she lose that "small-town girl" quality, try to rock it, or stick to country? I'm running 12 to 1 odds on this one, folks, so put your two cents in before the betting booth closes.
Coming soon: Interview with Kendra Todd
TV Squad also talks to the chief marketing officer of Kendra's business, My Real Estate, for a behind-the-scenes peek at the real Kendra from the perspective of her real-life colleagues, and gets the scoop on what really happened at the Apprentice viewing parties! You won't want to miss this!
File under obvious: Punk'd no longer fun for those Punk'd "When researching the majority of African American stars involved in pranks, why are so many “Punk’d” by law-like figures of authority?" Illseed at AllHipHip.com waxes philosophical on why most of the Punk'd subjects end up scared and crying in front of cops, while others, like UK singer Joss Stone, have merely to deal with tyrant children or taxicab rides gone awry.
