Linux.com's Java IRC Client was originally written by Philippe Tiolon, of IdNet in France. A copy of the sources were generously donated to the Linux.com team by the author, whereupon they were transfigured into the client you now see.

IdNet has also informed us that they are considering releasing the client under the GPL, making it the first of its kind available to the Open Source community.
