Any Atlanta Area LUGgers?

MRI-IT
A gal contacted me today, letting me know that an Internet startup company in Atlanta is looking for some linux employees to do things like testing strategy and specifications, design integrity, integration, application and system testing. Of course, knowledge of Linux and Apache is preferred. And it's a casual work environment ;-) For $40-$50, it sounds good to me! Send your resume to Julie Sisson jsisson@mri-it.com.
Linux.com is working on developing a Linux Jobs project. If you're interested in working on such a section, drop Dean a note, or visit the volunteer page.
Congrats to Miguel Louro!

Red Hat
Congrats Miguel! Miguel won Red Hat's ALS Desktop contest! He had a very interesting design featuring an eerie combination of black, white, greys and blue, taking advantage of the translucent properties of his xterms, allowing the features of a female face (Laura Croft?) to consume the background. Go have a look as his desktop here.

Running an Effective LUG Meeting
Deepak Saxena
Running an Effective LUG Meeting
One of the problems that all LUGs have to deal with is how to
effectively run a meeting. You have a given finite amount of time
in which to get through all your topics. As many have experienced,
meetings often take more time than initially allocated and sometimes
you don't accomplish everything you wanted to even with
the extra time. This can alienate first time visitors or those
who have just recently joined the LUG because it looks to them
that the LUG organizers do not have things under control. So how do you
solve this? Some would say that it's not possible: Whenever you get a
large enough group of people together to discuss a topic, you will always end up getting into tangential topics and spend most of your time on
these instead of the original issue at hand. I disagree and will present
several tips to help make your LUG meetings run smoother, remain within
the allotted time, and keep people interested in coming back. Some
of these things are too formal for an informal get together such
as a small LUG, but as a LUG grows in membership, it is necessary to
follow some procedure or face the consequence of utter chaos and
dwindling membership. These suggestions are primarily aimed at meetings
in which LUG members or vendor representatives are presenting on a
given topic. If you are having a installfest or open discussion
meeting, things should be run somewhat differently, though some of
these tips may still apply.
