New X-Box Info ... Kinda Sorta Maybe

Shhhhh, be very, very quiet. We've got a couple of X-Box rumors for ya'.

February 24, 2000

With all of the hype surrounding the alleged X-Box console, we would just like to tell you that everything in this news story is completely and utterly a rumor. But ... they're good rumors from a reliable source.

Anyway, the word on the street is that there is going to be a showing of the X-Box behind closed doors at the GDC. This would just be a mock-up of the box showing what the real thing is supposedly capable of, filled with a frankenstein system simulating the specs for the final hardware.

Another rumor points to the possibility of PC software being available for the alleged X-Box. Not all PC software, just the stuff that could actually run on it.

A little birdie also told us that there might be little or no licensing fees for the alleged X-Box. If this is true, it would give an advantage to the alleged X-Box as it would be cheaper to make games for.

Yet another little tidbit from the rumor mill is hinting that the alleged X-Box will not be coming out until 2001. This may be because they apparently scrapped the design that they had been using for it this past November and are working on something completely new for it. It apparently is running on an AMD chip at this point... though none of this has been confirmed.

Remember when we said that "everything in this news story is completely and utterly a rumor"? Well, we lied. We do have one definite new bit of hinkfo on the old X-Box-arooni. It seems that Microsoft did officially purchase and register the domain name www.xbox.com earlier today, giving further credence to the existence of the worst kept secret in the industry. Eat it up, X-Box speculators!
