Style News
(ELLE.com) Age does matter as the world of style continues
to target a younger market. Todays buzz from the fashion wire:
babies, too, will have their Burberry plaid while the Gap suffers
from its teen-oriented ad campaign.
Stellas Sweaters
Supermodel Stella Tennant is teaming up with Burberry to launch a
new line of baby clothes under the British label. The small collection
of hand-knit cashmere sweaters and leggings designed by Tennant will
be available in the fall and is expected to include some Burberry
signature plaids. The aristocratic supe, who currently fronts Burberrys
ad campaign, already has her own collection of baby knits called Tennant
and Son. Her new collection under the Burberry label will continue
to carry its original name.
Filling the Gap
Gaps new strategy geared towards teenage customers, including
its advertising rendition of West Side Story, has been
a resounding flop. Gap shares have fallen 21 percent, knocking $7
billion dollars from its market value. The Gaps blunder was
shifting its focus to the teen market, ignoring its older clientele.
What has hurt the Gap this year is they have overly focused
on the teenage customer to the exclusion of the 20-something customer,
an industry analyst told Reuters. A Gap spokesperson acknowledged
the firms mistake and said: Its something that was
a concern and steps have been taken.
