Start your November out right -- with a new Q&A.

A Whole Lot of 3Ding Going On

Hi,

Could you please tell me what sort of 3D acceleration FFVIII requires? I have a PII 400 (64Mb RAM) -- do I even need a 3D card?

Thanx!!

-- Matt

Will Delta Force 2 require 3D acceleration? I've been looking into a 3D accelerator for a while now and I was wondering if now was a good time to get one?

-- Brian

A big NO on both of those questions. Neither Final Fantasy VIII nor Delta Force 2 will require a 3D accelerator. Of course, they will both look much better with one (we were playing FFVIII for the PC today and it looks almost identical to the PlayStation version in software mode, but with full 3D it blows it's console cousin away). I'd say it's definitely time you grab a 3D accelerator now. There are so many good games out now that require one, it's a shame not to spend $100 for such a handy piece of hardware.

Double Your Pleasure

I was wondering if you could tell me which two player shooters are good for PC. Not the ones where you battle the other person, but where you actually go through levels with your partner.

-- John

Rogue Spear can't be beat right now for multiplay co-op action. It still gets a lot of play here around the IGNPC offices. You and a friend can group together to take on hostage threats across the globe, and even fill-out your teams with computer-controlled agents, with you commanding one group and your friend controlling the other.

Where's That Infernal Machine

I have a question about Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. I would love to be able to play it on my computer, but I do not have a 3D accelerator card or the money to buy it (plus my computer couldn't handle it). So, I heard a long time ago that it was coming out on Playstation (which I own) and now I hear it isn't. I was wondering if you could tell me the truth, is Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine still coming out for Playstation? I'm sorry I have to bug you, but the people over at PSX.IGN.COM won't respond. Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,

-- Matt

Resident madman Doug Perry told me that, unfortunately, Indiana Jones has been cancelled for the PSX. Looks like it's time to start saving up for a 3D card. After he relayed the sad news, he grabbed my baseball cap and pulled it over my face, shouted some nonsense about "evil robot bugs" or "rival donut hugs" or something like that, and skipped down the hall belting a high-pitched cackle until he was out of sight. Doug, if you're reading this, then this picture's for you:

The pretty flowers are soothing, Doug. Very soothing.

Unreal Oversight

Why isn't there a Unreal Tournament Demo that doesn't need a stupid 3dfx card. I think 3dfx sucks and are making a big mistake by doing this. Do they actually think that everyone buys their crappy cards so they figure they can just make a demo for just 3dfx owners. They better fix this by the finished product otherwise the game is going to suck.

-- tbetting

Well, well. Sounds like mommy not giving you enough attention at home, huh? There is an Unreal Tournament demo that works perfectly fine without a 3dfx-based card, and you can download it here. Oh, and by the way, the kids at 3dfx didn't make the Unreal Tournament demo. That was the folks at Epic.
