 The Week in Comics

When Batman, the X-Men, and Jenny Sparks come to play.

June 28, 2000

Our cover of the week. We think John McCrea drew it, but we can't find no stinking credits.
Ever have one of those days? Where your computer keeps crashing and everyone around you is talking loudly like it's Friday night already yet you don't have the comics index ready... well it's been one of those days, which is why your comic reviews are about an hour late.

But hey, an hour's not too bad. And don't worry! We've still got the same great comics coverage for you this week. Let's start with our columns.

What was the first superhero team of the modern age? And why did they battle a giant starfish? Todd Warren knows, and he tells all in this week's installment of Tales From the Vault, our regular look at classic comic books.

Meanwhile Randy Lander continues his look at comic book revamps -- from the good, the bad, to Valiant -- in Monitor Duty, while Sean Milstead gets self-referential in this week's Justice Column of America, examining the coverage of the comics industry.

Then of course there's our reviews -- probably in need of a revamp themselves! As always, they're updated every Thursday evening. Clicking on cover images or issue links will take you to the review. Clicking on the cover images within the review will give you a larger cover image, while our ratings come in three flavors:

  • Buy it! -- A great comic and a fine addition to your collection.
  • Borrow it! -- Could be good, could be bad. Borrow it from a friend or sneak a read at the comic store.
  • Bury it! -- Blah! Putting it six feet under is a mercy.

Now, on to the reviews. Enjoy!
